I/We would like to register our newborn or young child for Infant Baptism…what’s the procedure and how much notice is needed? How do I prepare for the Baptism of my Child?
Baptism is done every month except during Lent and December. The babies are registered on a date to be announced which is usually a Thursday between 9.00 and 11.00am at the office at St. Michael’s. Anyone can register the baby. This is followed by three sessions starting on the Monday after registration. Parents and catholic god-parents must attend these sessions at St. Cecilia’s Chapel, La Seiva.
How do I register my child for one of the Parish Schools? When does the registration process start and end?
The Church is not involved in the registration of children for schools. The parent should call the school in the term that precedes the September term for information. Please contact St. Michael’s R.C. School- Ph # 662 5814
My child attends a Non-catholic School in the Parish. How do I register him/her for Communion Classes?
First Communion at St. Cecilia’s Chapel is usually on the Feast of Christ the King in November and classes are held at the Chapel on Sunday morning. First Communion at St. Michael’s is usually on Corpus Christi (May or June) and classes are held at the Church on Sunday morning after the 7.30am mass. The start of classes is always announced at the Masses in the parish.
There is no age limit to receive the sacrament of Baptism.
The Sacrament of First Communion is usually received from the age of seven(7)years.
The Sacrament of Confirmation is usually received between the ages fifteen (15) and seventeen (17) years. The classes, however, start two (2) years before the young adult is confirmed. If an adult (eighteen (18) years and over) wishes to receive any of these sacraments, he/she can join the RCIA programme (The Rites of Christian Initiation for Adults) Call the Office for more information.
If you wish to get married in the Catholic Church, at least six (6) months prior to the set date, an appointment should be made with the Parish Priest. You can call the office at St. Michael’s to make an appointment (Ph# 662 4103)
The following steps should be taken before the wedding:
• Bring in recent copies of Baptism Certificates.
• Copies of Birth Certificates.
• Registrar’s Certificate which in valid for six (6) months only. Two (2) certificates are required if the couple lives in different Districts.
• Death Certificate if one of the couple is a widow or widower.
• Divorce Decree if one of the couple is divorced.
• Pre- Marriage Preparation Certificate.
• Copy of I.D. for bride, groom and witnesses and the precise addresses of the witnesses.
A member of my family or close friend died recently. I would like to arrange a Funeral Mass. What is the procedure?
When someone dies, it must be registered at the Registrar of Births and Deaths in the District. A Death Certificate and another form are issued to the applicant. A form is brought to the office at the Church (not the Death Certificate) and arrangements are made for the funeral.
