Baptism is the first Sacrament one can receive. It is the doorway into the Church. It gives us a new identity for we come to Baptism as God’s beloved creatures and we come out as His beloved children. We are now part of His Family; He has claimed us for His own.
In asking Baptism for your child, you are responding to God’s gift to your child to enter already the life of God, the life of grace, which will enable him or her to grow and flourish as a child of God.
Baptism means to plunge or immerse. This plunging into water symbolizes the believer’s burial with Christ, followed by his rising up as a “new creature”
Effects of Baptism:
- Cleansing from Original sin
- Being filled with the Holy Spirit and receiving sanctifying grace
- Becoming a member of the Church, the family of God
